The Ethiopian Millennium

Celebrating the Millennium again with Dinknesh Ethiopia Tour. A Cultural Exploration into the Heart of Ethiopia!...Suggested Tours

Two Millennia? You might ask, and the answer is yes.

A Millennium is something that happens once in every 1,000 years. With our limited and short lifetime, the persons who had the chance to celebrate one millennium are more than just lucky. They are blessed.

What if you have the chance to experience that day again?

That is exactly what you will be getting ! Another Millennium on Sep. 12, 2007.

You will be celebrating a second millennium in one of the world’s historically and culturally diverse and rich society of all times, and will really be feeling 7 years younger !

Background:
Ethiopia and the rest of the Christian world had celebrated the 1st millennium together 1,005 years ago. This was because both were using the same calendar – the Julian calendar.

But in 1582 A.D., the rest of the Christian world as a whole stopped using this calendar. They made various amendments and began using the revised Gregorian calendar. All, except Ethiopia.

The Gregorian calendar is thus seven years and eight months ahead of the Julian calendar.

Hence, Ethiopia too is seven years and eight months younger than the rest of the Christian world, who it seems were somewhat in a hurry to get to or be somewhere that they felt they had to change their calendar.

This means that travelers can ring in the 21st century all over again while discovering the history, culture and wildlife of Ethiopia. A country that takes their celebrations very seriously, Ethiopia will be alive with energy and celebration next summer, September 12, 2007.

Millennium Packages:
